THE IDEA

So this started out as a very odd idea. Originally, this was suppose to be about games with ridiculous trophies that involving grinding where the player has to spend hours to level up or gain materials for completion by defeating enemies or a lot of tasks. But recently I have been looking into a lot of Genshin Impact. I don't have full interest with getting into the game even though some of my friends do play it. The gameplay doesn't impress me and even trying to play it, it was just boring. However, it does have a platinum trophy which did peak my curiosity of trying to play the again. And then I looked at it's completion list and was horrified by the task. But I considered it a challenge, so I deleted my account and now waiting for the full deletion in order to go for it's cruel hunt. But it did give an interesting idea for a blog, what games out there have such long completion times? So for this blog, I picked Genshin(since I already talked about it) and 4 other games with very long and cruel completion times and talking about the long journey many completionist have to do in order to get a platinum trophy. I will also have an image of not only the game but also the trophy completion guides that come with each game showing the difficulty, playthroughs and time it would possibly take to get the full completion. So lets start off with Genshin Impact.

GENSHIN IMPACT

So yeah that image above is the actual Trophy List/Guide. I went with the one that had a PSN Profiles approved stamp. As you can see, most the trophies involved being online but there is also a ton of grind with it I tried looking at info for this game and I unfortunately could not understand it so I'm just gonna do my best to explain some of them. First, some of the trophies require you open chests around the world in different areas however depending on the area, the chest limit could be around from 20 chests to possibly 800 chests. Part of the grind also involves ascending a character and weapon to level 6 which basically means leveling them up, but it seems you need certain amount of materials or items in order to get them to that level so that where the grind comes in. There something called the Sprial Abyss and I guess it like a tower or something and some trophies require to reach and beat a specific floor. There also building a reputation in towns and cities, and random trophies like shooting a falcon in mid-air or climbing a statue and laying on that statue's hands. One trophy called Explorer: Unswerving requires you and another player going to an island and stand in a heart shaped rock on the ground. Sounds easy but you need to be online with another player and the trophy is also bugged so it will depend you did it right. Lastly, there are date sensitive trophies which require a the player to get this on a specific date, and unfornately I think Genshin uses a real time so changing the time on your console won't work. Another thing to note that there are 70 trophies in the game, 69 excluding the platinum, but you only need to do the base game trophies, which is just 38 of them.

CRASH BANDICOOT 4: IT'S ABOUT TIME

Crash Bandicoot made his big return when the first 3 games were remastered for modern consoles and his return was needed. But then in 2020, Crash would get a new game which would be a sequel to the first three games and would forget all the other games that came out after Crash 3. However, Crash 4 turned out to be the hardest out of the mainline Crash games as it contained a massive amount of content and betrayed a completion rule that the time trial relics had since when they first appeared back in the original Crash 3 PS1 game. To start, the Time Trial relics has the player beat a level as quickly as possible. Depending on how long it takes the player to beat the level, the player will get either a Sapphire, a gold, or platinum relic. In the past, all you needed was a gold relic for the completion but Crash 4 requires the player to get a platinum relic for every level instead of gold which is a lot of trial and error. There also a new relic called a developer relic but it isn't required at all. The colored gems make a return in this game however only one proved to be the hardest which was the sapphire gem. In the level that it can be obtained in, the player must beat the level without breaking a single box. It hard because the player has to come up with good strategies and timing. Players must also in every level get all 6 gems with requires the player to beat the level with a certain amount of Wumpa fruit which gives you 3 gems, beat the level under 3 deaths for one gem, break all the boxes in a level for one gem, and find the level's hidden gem for one more gem to have all 6 gems in a level. The game adds inverted levels after you beat the second boss which makes you reply the same levels but with a filter on it. To make it worst, those inverted levels have their own 6 gems so you need to get 12 gems inn total for each level. Some levels also have these tapes that can only be obtained if you reach it without dying. These tapes unlock flashback levels which you need to get 100% on for completion. The last one is the most painful of them all, the perfection relic. These relics are in every level and you need to beat a level, break every box in a level and get all the gems in a level without dying once. If you die once, you need to restart that whole level. That is how painful the Crash 4 platinum is and how time consuming it is.

YAKUZA 0

Yakuza 0 became the new first entry point to the Yakuza franchise when it was released in Japan in 2015 and North America in 2017. However, the franchise wouldn't see worldwide recognition till 2020 when Covid hit, Yakuza 0 was added to the Xbox Game Pass and would receive a ton of praise with the rest of the games being added to Game Pass later on and future entries being added to not Xbox consoles but would end the long waits the series would have when a new game comes out, no more only Japan releases, the franchise would see worldwide releases for future games. However, Yakuza 0 praise not only came from the series story telling but also the amount of side stories and activities to do. However, these side stuff would be reason why Yakuza 0 is considered the longest Yakuza game to fully complete. This game does have missable trophies which means when doing the story, you'll need a guide to keep track out specific parts that you shouldn't miss such as giving a homeless man a certain expensive alcohol or letting the food that you got for the girl involved with the story get cold. However, these missable trophies are easy to deal with. The completion list the main reason. There are list that contains the multiple activities to do in the game and tracks your activities. But you need to complete the whole list, full 100%. Which means everything in bowling, arena fights, darts, billiards, telephone cards, cat fights, karaoke, drinking and eating from bars and restaurants, side quests, fishing, running a night club, running a financial business, dates, mahjong, battle victories and using different move sets and many more. I could go on but there is a lot to do in this game and you'll need to save a ton of money as well since you'll need it to run both businesses and level up both characters. The climax also are a difficult experience as they just fights from the story but with a challenging extra added to them. Finally, you need to beat story again but on Legend difficulty, the hardest difficulty in the game but it isn't much of the reason why it takes awhile, Legend mode has been in past games so they aren't too much to deal with.

RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2

Originally I was going to do one on Devil May Cry 4 or Call of Duty Black Ops 3 but I went with something I know more of, Red Dead Redemption 2 was a critically acclaimed game that came out in 2018, 8 years after the first game was released. As expected from a RockStar game, it would have such a massive map/world that it would take awhile to finish everything including online. The good thing with online trophies is the online is no longer receiving any more updates so getting them all would be more easier now than what it was before. But it doesn't change the hardest trophies. One trophies requires the player to replay all missions to get a gold rank on every mission which means not only you have to beat the mission but complete two special tasks in the mission to get a gold rank on that mission. But the real grind comes from the notebook and collectables. There are multiple collectables involving dreamcatchers and cigarette cards including guns and other items. The notebook is the most time consuming of the trophies as you need to find all plants, animals, guns, challenges, clothing, horses, and many other collections. However, a lot of these items are rare to get with certain guns needed to be obtained by certain outlaws or shop owners, and some animals appear randomly or different times. The animals are the hardest part of this completion as in order to finish an animal's page, you need to find the animal, observe it with a telescope, kill it with the right weapon in order to have the skin not damaged and skin it in order to finish a page. This goes for every animal except horses in the game, which means yourself finding every animal including ones that are very rare or show up in packs like wolves. Plus, random events can happen when you explore the game and these events also are part of the completion so be on lookout.

MORTAL KOMBAT 9

Of course, to end things off with a painful one, and this one's online is no longer in service making the platinum unobtainable now, Mortal Kombat 9. This game rebooted the series and the reboot brought back fan favorite characters and changed the story leading to Mortal Kombat soon having a ending worth it's time. But the trophies are ridiculous. Back before the online was available, there were some online trophies that were notable hard such as win 200 online battles, win 200 ranked battles, win a ranked match without jumping and win 10 ranked matches in a row. In the mode test your luck, there will be a slot machine that would decide the conditions of your match however you need to get all 3 emblem slots or in other terms a jackpot to get a trophy. You need to beat the test your might tower which can be difficult once you reach the top. In the game you need to complete the classic towers which are towers that have a list of fighters you need to fight to see how a character's story ends if they were the one to beat Shao Kahn, the game main antagonist. You need to beat the tower on it's hardest difficulty, beat on the same difficulty but with no continues, and beat classic with every character. There is the crypt which gives you more content if you have enough coins to use, and you need to finish the whole crypt to get 2 trophies. Now these last two are the reason why this game takes 400+ hours to get the completion. The Tower challenge requires the player to beat a tower with over 300 different fights with a different challenge in each. This tower is very long and the final fight makes things worst. You must fight 4 characters one after another and your health remains the same. To make things worst the fight is set at the game's hardest difficulty. But the worst comes with the Mastery trophy. This trophy requires the player to perform 150 X-rays moves, 100 Fatalities, Babalities or Stage Fatalities, 24 hours of real time gameplay, and 10,000 pints of blood with not one but every single character in the game. This trophy proves that some guides might be wrong with how log this takes since this trophy takes a long time and to make things worst, this trophy at times is bugged because the game's system at time doesn't fully track all the info right so it just adds more to the trouble.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This was an interesting talk, there are a lot more games out there with very long completion times and I found around 10 of them but due to a lack of research and a lack of motivation to see that research only these 5 games were in here so possibly in the future, the other 5 games will be part of another blog, maybe a Part 2 who knows. At the moment, Genshin will be part of the plan but I have to wait a awhile since I did delete my account and have to wait the full 30 days for it to be fully deleted. But I might try to go so all 70 trophies and not just platinum. I want to try to get more difficult completions onto my list but it take some time. As for the rest, Yakuza 0 and Red Dead 2 are also gonna be on my list later on but I just need the time. Probably won't start the Genshin grind till the Summer since I would have more time around then. If you're up for the challenge then go ahead but remember that only 4 of these games are obtainable as for Mortal Kombat its no longer able to obtained but you can still play a good chuck of the game if ya want. Anyway that all I have to say, peace out.
